Ioan Allen Receives the ICTA Icon Award

The annual Los Angeles Seminar Series event was highlighted this year with the presentation of the prestigious Icon Award to Ioan Allen at the Tuesday evening dinner, January 10 at the Universal Hilton.

Mr. Allen was feted at the dinner for “his numerous contributions to the motion picture industry and the international cinema technology association” stated Frank Tees, President of the ICTA, the preeminent technology organization in the industry.

Mark Christiansen, Executive V.P. of Paramount Pictures, and Robert Sunshine, Executive Director of the ICTA made the presentations. A crowd of nearly 200 people gathered in the ballroom of the Hilton to see loan receive this honor.

Mr. Allen was central to the introduction of all the early Dolby cinema sound formats, from 1975 on-Dolby stereo to Dolby digital on film in 1992. In addition to these specific Dolby activities, loan has consistently led or been a major contributor to industry-wide programs such as the ongoing campaign to lower trailer levels and the worldwide transition from silver to cyan dye analog soundtracks on 35mm film. He received academy awards for both activities.

As a past president of the ICTA, loan engineered the creation of the Los Angeles seminar series which today is the largest gathering of technology experts in the industry. The ICTA honored Ioan with the creation of the Allen award in 2000 which is awarded to an ICTA member for outstanding service to the organization. And in 2017, Ioan was presented with the first-lifetime achievement award presented by the ICTA for his extraordinary achievements in the motion picture industry and for unparalleled contributions to the ICTA.
