THE ICTA LOS ANGELES SEMINAR SERIES (LASS)

All NACA Winners

In early January, the ICTA in Partnership with the Cinema Foundation held their annual Los Angeles Seminar Series (LASS) at the Universal Hilton in Burbank, California. The Event attracted more than 225 people from all segments of the motion picture industry for two days of business sessions.

Some of the topics included Tools and Methods for Room Audio Measurement, the latest developments in Direct View LED technology and insightful Dealer and Exhibitor Roundtable discussions.

Tuesday evening at the hotel was the LASS Awards Banquet where among other things the ICTA paid tribute to audio industry veteran Tomlinson Holman with the prestigious Icon Award, recognizing Tom’s pivotal role in enhancing the audio experience and standards in cinemas worldwide through the Lucasfilm THX program.

Also during the Awards Banquet we celebrated the winners of the Third Annual North American Cinema Awards, which acknowledged excellence in categories such as Best New Build, Best Cinema Refurbishment and Best Use of Technology. These awards honor the innovation, dedication and contributions of cinemas that have enriched our communities and industry, serving as inspiration for the future of cinema.

The winning theatres were:

BEST NEW CINEMA BUILD – Cinepolis Luxury Cinemas Inglewood IMAX;

BEST CINEMA REFURBISHMENT – B&B THEAS CREVE COEUR WEST OLIVE 10;

BEST USE OF NEW TECHNOLOGY – Emagine Batavia

Another highlight of the Banquet was the Celebration of the Life of Ray Boegner, a former board member who passed away recently.

The ICTA thanks Theatre Toolkit for facilitating the LASS App this year.

Lulu and Daniel Boegner were on hand for the celebration of Ray at the LASS Banquet.

Tomlinson Holman accepts the ICON Award from President Frank Tees and last year’s recipient Ioan Allen of Dolby Labs.

Luis Olloqui of Cinepolis Luxury Cinemas accepts the Best New Cinema Build Award from Frank Tees, and two of the NACA Committee Chairs Theresa English and Loren Nielsen.

Brock Bagby of B&B Theatres Creve Coeur West Olive 10 accepts the award for Best Cinema Refurbishment from Frank Tees, Tony Adamson and Loren Nielsen.

Jury Award – Frank Tees of MIT, Mike Cummings of TK Architects, Loren Nielsen of Xperi
